New to Fitness – Where Do I Start?

I get questions similar to “I’m just getting into fitness, where do I start?” or “I haven’t worked out in forever due to “x,” where do I start?” The short answer…start where you are with what you have at this moment in time. As for the long version of the answer…

It doesn’t have to be fancy, it just has to be something.  Whether it is 5 minutes a day, you have equipment or not, or you can’t even do a squat…it doesn’t matter.  You can start by walking, going up and down the stairs one extra time each day, or stretching while drinking your coffee…the options are endless! Think about what you currently can do and progress from there.  If you can only do bodyweight squats, start there. If you can’t, then maybe start with standing up and sitting down from a chair or doing another lower body strength exercise. Be creative with the space, time, and equipment (or lack there of) you have access to!

Something is better than nothing!

Give yourself grace…lots of grace. You’re going to mess up, and that’s okay!  The sooner you get back on track, the sooner you can reach your goals.  You don’t have to wait for next month, or Monday, or even tomorrow.  Each moment you have is a new moment to re-start.

Everyone you look up to has re-started a million times. What sets them apart is that they kept going after they messed up.
